THE GOSPEL OF MARK

MARK 10:13-16 // The Inclusivity and Exclusivity of the Kingdom

A man's spirit will endure sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? - Proverbs 18:14

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ – Matthew 7:21-23

Who is the Kingdom of God for?

How does one get into the Kingdom of God?

And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” 16 And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. – Mark 10:13-16

“Blessing is the projection of good into the life of another.” – Dallas Willard

“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.”- Genesis 1:27-28

Who is the Kingdom of God for?

  1. THE KINGDOM IS AVAILABLE FOR ANYBODY. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. – Mark 10:14

How does one get into the Kingdom of God?

  1. THE KINGDOM IS ONLY RECEIVED LIKE A CHILD. V.

Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” – Mark 10:15

What does Childlike faith look like?

  1. Simple Trust

  2. Radical Dependence

iii.         Unashamed Audacity

The only person who dares wake up a king at 3:00 AM for a glass of water is a child. We have that kind of access.” – Tim Keller

THE WAY OF THE WORLD VS THE WAY OF THE KINGDOM

-      Work          - Trust

-      Perform      - Receive

-      Earn           - Rest

You can’t come to Jesus with your arms full of everything you think makes you good. Your having it together, your best efforts — that is not the interest of Jesus. His welcome is a welcome to those who lack what the world considers premium. His welcome is a welcome of needs, of smallness, of those who don’t know how to feed themselves or tie their shoes or wipe their noses. He wants you to come like a kid, like a little kid who might need carrying. – Jonathan Parnell
