Parent Resources for April 7 to April 14

Details from this week in Hope Kids

Today’s Bible Story: Palm Sunday • John 12:9-16 (supporting: Matthew 21:1-11)
Today’s Key Question: What are you hoping for?
Today’s Bottom Line: Whatever happens, remember God is still working.
Monthly Memory Verse: “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NLT)
Monthly Life App: Hope—Believing that God will do something good even when things are bad
Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

Grab your Bible and look up John 12:9-16 together. Is John in the Old or New Testament? If you aren’t sure where John is, look at the table of contents and head to that page.

Ask these questions to your kids once finishing the story in Luke
  • What are some hard situations you or other kids your age have gone through?
  • What does it feel like when you’re facing a tough situation and you can’t see or understand what God is doing in it?
  • What does it look like for a kid your age to trust God when going through a problem that feels hopeless?
  • Why does it give us hope to know that God is ALWAYS working out God’s plans and will NEVER stop?

Family Activity-Memory Verse Roundup!

What You Need: Paper, something to write with, scissors, pool noodles (or broom, paper towel roll, long stick, etc.)

What You Do:

  • On a piece of paper, have someone write the memory verse. Do this twice.
  • Cut the memory verse pages into pieces so that each piece has a word or couple words on it.
  • Split your family into two different teams and place the memory verse pieces for each team across the room from you.
  • Give the first person on each team a donkey (pool noodle).
  • At your signal, the first person on each team “rides” the “donkey” to the verse pieces, picks up a piece, rides back to their team, and passes the donkey to the next kid in line.
  • When each team has all of their pieces, work together to put the verse in order.
  • First team to read the verse correctly together wins!
Pray about Hope
1) Thank God for being a good God, even when things around us seem bad.
2) Thank God that He loves us no matter what.
3) Ask God to remind you that even when things are not going well, that you can find hope in Him.
4) Ask God to give you an opportunity this week to share that hope with someone else who needs Him.
