“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5
Agriculturally, fruit is the life of the vine being pressed out through the branches. For example, what does a grape vine produce? Grapes. What does an orange tree produce? Oranges. Spiritually speaking, Jesus reminds us that we are branches. And branches are only responsible to bear the fruit of the vine. You see, we often try so hard to live our Christian life in an effort to produce fruit for God when all the while Jesus desires to live His life in and through us. That’s fruit: His life, not our effort. It’s no wonder why He said “for apart from Me you can do nothing.”
