"But the Lord was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand. As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, As He will bear their iniquities." Isaiah 53:10-11
Before a child is born, their parents eagerly wait for the big day their little one enters the world. Similarly, the Old Testament saints were awaiting by faith the day that the Messiah would come. The prophet Isaiah, led by the Spirit of God (2 Peter 1:20-21), wrote about this One who was to come. The Lord called this Man, "My Servant". Does this name not absolutely typify what Christ came to do on our behalf? Though we are undeserving, by His grace, Christ came to serve us. By His death, burial, and resurrection, He gave us the ability to be forgiven of our sin and set free to live in a daily relationship with Him. How then can we not serve other people when we ourselves have been so served?
