“Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self and its practices.” Colossians 3:9
Anyone who has raised children knows both that you have to teach a child to tell the truth, and that children know, almost, it seems, from the moment that they start talking, how to stretch truth. The Psalms say, “All mankind are liars.” (Ps. 116:11) The truth is that we are born into sin and, in our flesh, we will lie. There is hope for Christ-followers, however, because the Scripture says we have put off our old self and put on our new self in Christ Jesus. By the power of the Holy Spirit in us, we can now resist the temptation to lie, or to violate Him in any other way, as we abide in Him day by day.
