“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” – John 15:7
There is a question that every Jesus follower wrestles with at some point in his/her life. The question is this: “Is God going to answer my prayer?” While we cannot put God into a box, today’s verse shows us two conditions that, if followed, can invite an answer from God into our lives. First, we must abide in Him. This is our moment-by-moment, intimate relationship with Jesus. We are to trust in and rest in Him for everything we need. Second, His word must abide in us. One of the primary ways we grow in our relationship with Jesus is by reading and meditating upon His Word. When His Word and His presence fill our lives, we can be ready to receive an answer from the Lord when we let our requests be made known to Him (Philippians 4:6-7).
