Hope of Eternal Life
"in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long before the ages began." - Titus 1:2
Can you remember a time as a child when you hoped with all of your heart for that special gift for Christmas? Or have you ever thrown a coin into a fountain, made a wish, and placed your hope in that wish coming true? The "hope" here in Titus 1:2 is not some nebulous wishing for something, just hoping it will come true. The word "hope" used here refers to a confident expectation and anticipation. It is a confident expectation because it rests on the promise of a God who not only does not lie but cannot because of His perfect and holy character. As Christians, we can absolutely place our hope in eternal life for the future (John 3:36). But eternal life is also right now! Jesus said that eternal life is knowing Him (John 17:3).
When was the last time you thanked God for the eternal life you have in Christ?
